New Ropes is a newsletter about the world of work — career and industry navigation, income generation, and the general nuances of “finding your calling.” It covers workforce developments, careers trends, how economic and political events shape different industries, as well as personal reflections on my own career experiences, using them as a starting point for the broader insights and advice I share.

I’m Grace, and my career has been a maze of twists, turns, and dead ends. I currently work as a Transportation Planner for a private firm, but I’ve also spent time in career coaching, Big-4 consulting, municipal government, local nonprofits, large international NGOs, small businesses, restaurant chains, construction, sports entertainment, health and fitness, hospitality, and others… and I’m 28.

I know a thing or two about switching careers and what’s out there. I enjoy pulling insights from my research and personal experiences to provide others with options on what they could do and how they could do it. I used to feel shame about the lack of direction in my career, but now I know my journey has developed in me a genuine passion for helping others figure out how to find the direction that I wished I’d had.
